Danseur, chorégraphe et pédagogue russe.
Formé à l'École théâtrale de *Moscou, auprès de V. *Tikhomirov notamment, il est premier danseur au *Bolchoï (1906-1911 et 1913-1918), aux *Ballets russes de *Diaghilev (1909 et 1919-1921) et dans la compagnie A. *Pavlova (1911-1913 et 1921-1928). Il compose quelques ballets à Moscou et pour Pavlova dans les années 1920. A partir de 1929, il enseigne aux Etats-Unis.

Théâtre ouvert en 1945.
Doctor Ai-bolit (1947, chor. Mikhaïl Moïsseïev) est le premier ballet original créé dans ce théâtre. La compagnie attire l'attention dans les années 1960 sous la direction de P. *Goussev (1962-1966) qui invite Y. *Grigorovitch et O. *Vinogradov, ce dernier présentant ses versions de *Cendrillon et *Roméo et Juliette, puis, dans les années 1970, avec les spectacles de N. *Kassatkina et V. *Vassiliev, M. *Plissetskaïa ou encore P. *Lacotte (la *Sylphide). S'y succèdent comme chorégraphes Alexandre Dementiev (1974-1983), Vadim Boudarine (1982-1990) et Vladimir Vladimirov (depuis 1990), tandis qu'Anatoli Berdytchev et Lubov Gerchounova (années 1960-1970) et Tatiana Kladnitchkina (années 1980-1990) y déploient leurs talents de danseur.

Nucleodanza.
Groupe de danse argentin fondé en 1974.
Conçu comme groupe de « danse de chambre » par ses fondateurs M.*Bali, Ana Deutsch et Susana Tambutti, de La Puñalada (1986) à Doblar Mujer (1996), il développe un répertoire d'œuvres expressives, signées principalement par Bali et Tambutti, qui s'appuient sur l'aspect plastique et le maniement d'objets. Primé de nombreuses fois, le groupe participe régulièrement à des festivals internationaux en Europe, Australie et Amérique latine ainsi qu'aux États-Unis (*American Dance Festival). En 1985 Nucleodanza crée et danse la chorégraphie du film Tango, el exilio de Gardel de Fernando E. Solanas, qui reçoit le prix de la Critique au festival de Venise.

Charles NUITTER, [Truinet Charles, dit ] (1828-1899).
Auteur dramatique et librettiste français.
Fils d'un sculpteur, il abandonne sa carrière d'avocat pour se consacrer à l'art dramatique. Son œuvre abondante connaît le succès dans tous les genres : pièces, opéras, opérettes, *vaudevilles et *ballets. Il écrit plusieurs livrets pour J. *Offenbach (dont Vert-Vert, 1869, avec H. *Meilhac), traduit et adapte des opéras dont Tannhäuser et le Vaisseau fantôme de R. *Wagner, et Aïda de G. *Verdi. Pour l'Opéra de *Paris, il écrit cinq livrets de ballets : la *Source, *Coppélia, Gretna-Green (1873, L. *Mérante), Namouna (1882, L. *Petipa), les Jumeaux de Bergame (1886, Mérante).
Dès 1866, nommé archiviste à l'Opéra, il rassemble et classe une importante collection de documents sur l'art dramatique et l'*Académie royale de musique, donnant ainsi naissance à l'actuelle Bibliothèque.

Compositeur britannique.
Ses études musicales traditionnelles, contrastent avec sa carrière de compositeur peu commune. Très aimé du grand public pour son *minimalisme étroitement calqué sur la musique ancienne, il se fait surtout connaître par les musiques qu'il compose pour plusieurs films remarqués. Il collabore en particulier avec le réalisateur Peter Greenaway. notamment pour Prospero's Book (1991) dont K. *Saporta signe les chorégraphies qu'elle développe ensuite à la scène dans la Princesse de Milan (1991).

Compétition annuelle organisée à Nyon (Suisse) de 1977 à 1986.
Il voit le jour sous l'impulsion de Francisco Miranda afin de donner aux jeunes compagnies, en particulier suisses, l'occasion d'atteindre un large public. Les chorégraphies ne doivent pas excéder 15 minutes et compter au minimum trois interprètes. À partir de 1979, le concours s'étend aux duos et aux solos. Environ 500 chorégraphes, essentiellement contemporains, présentent leur travail en dix ans. M. *Marin sera la première lauréate puis, entre autres, M. *Breuker, Sara et Jerry Pearson, Cathy Sharp, Étienne Frey, Charles Vodoz, Ph. *Saire, K. *Saporta, J. *Bouvier-R. *Obadia.
