The cult of nudism in public places in Germany has a history dating back to the beginning of the 20th century and the growth in popularity of the bathing resorts on the Baltic and North Sea coasts. Today, many Germans still have a liberal attitude towards nudity, and it is not uncommon for visitors to Munich's Englischer Garten, for example, to be confronted with office workers stripping off at lunchtime to enjoy the sun and the cooling waters of the fast-flowing river Isar.
